Dr Emmanuel Nchimbi was sworn in as Vice President of Tanzania on 3 November 2025, five days after President Samia Suluhu Hassan won the general election with him as her running mate. He had previously been Secretary-General of the ruling party, Chama Cha Mapinduzi. He held the vice presidency for 296 days. On 25 August 2026 he announced he had written to the President, resigning the vice presidency and retiring from public service and active politics.

His resignation letter said 4 September. The Attorney-General told Parliament he stopped being Vice President on 26 August.
