Kontext Media Academy
Learn it in a working newsroom, not a lecture hall
We train aspiring and working journalists and content creators in the studio where our own programmes are made — practical skills, ethical grounding, and the creative confidence to work in an industry that changes every quarter.
Applications for the November cohort close on 16 October 2026.
Why the Academy exists
We met talented storytellers with no room to practise
Journalists who could not get near a professional production facility. Young creators with exceptional ideas and nowhere to develop the craft. That gap is one of the three reasons Kontext Media Africa was founded, and the Academy is the part of the answer that outlives any single programme we publish.
So we teach in the room where the work happens. Trainees sit in on real productions, cut real material, and publish something with their name on it before they leave.
Practical skills
Scripting, shooting, audio, editing, publishing. Things a graduate can actually do.
Ethical grounding
Sourcing, verification, right of reply, consent, and the law as it applies in Uganda.
Creative confidence
Pitching, finding a story, research, developing a voice, working to a deadline in public.
Programmes
Three ways in, depending on where you are starting
